We have the CoAEMSP AEMT SMC tooled up for your EMS Students!
Whether or not you are seeking voluntary accreditation through CAAHEP as laid out by the CoAEMSP for your AEMT program, the SMC developed for tracking AEMT cohorts is a useful tool…and Sterling Credentials has it ready to go for you. Sterling Credentials is the world’s first EMS-EDS (Educational Documentation System) which both collects the documentation you need and helps close the educational loop with your students. It was founded by an educator who wants to:
- protect fellow educators
- take as many jobs off of educators as possible and
- enhance student learning.
The Only ePCR-Based System
We always aim to aid and support the learner. All prehospital providers must learn how to do the “paperwork” that accompanies patient care, so our SMC is populated by pulling the information straight out of your students’ standard PCRs. This approach has cognitive, psychomotor, and affective benefits for EMT, AEMT, and paramedic students.
The cognitive benefits occur because our forms are based on NREMT skill sheets. In examination-writing, skill sheets are used as a reference of sorts–to see where the National Registry stands on a specific question. Since students fill out these forms on every patient contact, they are studying the “approved” NR approach without even realizing it.
Psychomotor domain involves the actual skill of report-writing. Our standard time/interventions format allow you to see how the EMS student is processing their calls and the completeness of their accompanying PCR documentation. Our novel narrative markup tool gives you the means to “close the loop” and communicate your review of the student’s narrative with a quick turnaround. It can be done immediately at the close of a shift to ensure corrections are made before the students goes to their next shift (to avoid repeating the errors).
Finally, within the affective domain, our process of writing a PCR for every patient encounter builds the “muscle memory” acquired during routine report-writing. Students grow to understand their legal responsibility, practice timeliness, and develop a professional vocabulary.
While there is a minimum documentation requirement to acquire patient contact credits (Primary and Secondary assessment), there are no special tricks to get the SMC populated; the assessments ensure faculty can defend the awarded credits, and you never have to teach paramedic students the difference between “formative” and “summative” again–instead, we employ a higher documentation standard for “capstone” and “completion” credits.
How the SMC Works

Clicking one of the numbers of accrued SMC credits will pull up the summary of where those credits originated.
Gone are the days of “running a report” to view the SMC and waiting as your precious time ticks away–the SMC is dynamically visible to you and your students. It updates as patient reports are locked and as shifts are closed. Additionally, nobody ever has to wonder where SMC credits are coming from–the user simply clicks the number to pull up a summary list of credits where the actual PCR
can also be pulled up.
This technology originally built for the main paramedic SMC has been tested and proven reliable since 2022. Students and faculty always have access to view the same information which cuts down on miscommunications.
How to see more
If you’re the type who likes to work alone, you can visit our YouTube Channel and/or surf around our Knowledge Base. You can even create a new (no obligation, no cost) program account which comes with a couple of sample cohorts so that you can just play with it.
Alternatively, get a professional tour of the place with founder (paramedic, educator, former program director) Julianne Stevenson. She speaks your language, so it’s kinda like visiting with an old partner. She takes requests and will show you exactly what you wish to see.
We want to make sure your AEMT students who are already “drinking from a firehose” have a documentation system which directly helps THEM while also ensuring you never fight alone. Our heart is invested in all those who routinely make personal sacrifices, practice their craft in terrible conditions, and the patients who need them.
Sigh of Relief
Nobody wants to attend a two-day training anymore to learn how to use software. We’ve created a suite of straight-forward logical tools which you’ll actually WANT to use. The proof? Since our first paying customer in 2019, nobody who has enrolled a cohort with us has ever left us…which is just the coolest thing ever to me!
